Come on, what’s not to like about fatherhood? Diaper changes. The water cup. The baths. The fist bumps and high fives. The tantrums and fits. Prepping for meals and snacks every day. Laundry. Scraped knees and rashes. Sickness. Doctor visits. Or how about the ongoing giving of reasons for every rule or expectation you have at home? Or answering a million questions every day? Or dealing with attitude or disrespect? There are no bonuses, salary increases, promotions, accolades, no applause from your co-workers, no climbing the fatherhood ladder to Chief Fatherhood Officer or Master Father. There are no special fatherhood days off. Nope. Maybe you’re fortunate to receive a “Best Dad Ever” mug one day. Maybe. Is fatherhood worth the trouble? Yes. Why?
Fatherhood is a gift from God. Fatherhood is one of the ways by which we get to know God and reflect God to the world. Fatherhood is a high calling, but it’s in the everyday mundane moments that fatherhood shines best.
Fatherhood is a unique experience that has the power to change lives, or ruin them. How about we redeem fatherhood? How about we see and express fatherhood as a gift from God to be stewarded for God and His divine purposes in the world? I believe we can change the world, one father and his family at a time. I'm excited to share more about what I'm building to help fathers in the days to come. I look forward to your input and feedback! ______ |
