Father's Day is this Sunday! Are you all ready for it? As with Mother's Day, Father's Day also produces mixed feelings. Some are eager and ready to celebrate by taking time to honor the fathers in their lives. I'm sure gifts--such as hats, books, sports memorabilia, clothes, watches, cigars, grills, etc.--will abound. Others will painfully remember their fathers' brokenness and shortcomings. The neglect, abandonment, and/or abuse can still be too much to carry. The wounds run deep. The emotional, spiritual, and perhaps physical scars have left us reeling. (If you need someone to hold space for you, encourage you, and help you take some meaningful action towards a better tomorrow, take advantage of a free fatherhood coaching session here.) This Father's Day will be different for me. You might be wondering why. It's the first Father's Day since launching my new venture to train and coach fathers. This holiday will hit different moving forward. I have a burden and passion for fathers that isn't going away any time soon. I can't help but think of all the fathers I know and how these men show up, work hard, carry so much, make mistakes, struggle and suffer, etc. To the fathers who receive this newsletter: Fathers, I see you. You matter. The world is better because of you in it. Don't believe the lie that because you're not perfect you don't matter. I'll be praying for each of you by name this week. You can count on it! To the rest, mostly wives, who receive this newsletter: Yes, take the time to honor the fathers in your lives. Enjoy the day. Bless and honor them with your time and gifts. Yes and amen! But go the extra mile. Cultivate the habit of honoring the fathers in your lives throughout the year. Thank them for their hard work and provision, celebrate their growth over time, respect them publicly, and celebrate their contributions. Show them love in tangible ways. Small gestures of gratitude and honor go along way to build and strengthen fathers. Trust me. Sow good seeds that will bear fruit in their lives and bless you in return. If I can help in any way, I'm one call, text, or email away. I'm curious. How will you celebrate Father's Day this year? Do you have any fun and crazy ideas? I would love to hear all about it!
